Global value of diamond exports 2023, by country

In 2023, India was the largest exporter of diamonds worldwide, amounting to a total value of 18.2 billion U.S. dollars. This compared to the nearly 17 billion U.S. dollars of diamonds exported by the United States that year, ranked second. Although India is the world's largest diamond exporter based on value, this is due to the fact that India is the world's largest diamond polishing nation, which it supplies through raw diamond imports, rather than having a high mine production of diamonds.

Leading diamond producers

Russia, the world’s eighth-largest exporter of diamonds, was the world’s leading producer of diamonds from mines in 2023, with a production volume of nearly 37.3 million carats. Botswana, which was the seventh-leading diamond exporting nation, ranked at a distant second-place among diamond producer countries, producing over 25 million carats of diamonds the same year. The Kao mine located in Botswana was the world’s largest diamond mine in terms of production annual volume, with an estimated production of 13.3 million carats of diamonds as of 2023. 

De Beers Diamond Consortium

De Beers is one of the leading diamond mining and trading companies in the world. The South African and British corporation, headquartered in London, generated an annual revenue of nearly seven billion U.S. dollars in 2022. De Beers' diamond production volume amounted to nearly 32 million carats in 2023.
