According to a survey conducted by GEM Partners in June 2020, about four percent of respondents in Japan subscribed to Amazon Prime Video since March of the same year. Amazon Prime Video gained the most new subscribers, followed by Netflix and Hulu. A survey from May 2020 on the time spent on recreation and entertainment amid the coronavirus pandemic showed that the time spent on watching movies via video on demand services increased for the majority of people in Japan.
