According to a study published in 2019, between 2012 and 2050 the consumption of livestock products in Nigeria is estimated to grow at an annual rate by over three percent. For instance, the consumption of milk amounted in 2012 to 1.4 thousand tons, while in 2050 this figure is projected to reach 4.2 thousand tons, growing by 262 percent. Similarly, the consumption of eggs might increase between 2012 and 2050 by 250 percent.
Nigeria's population is forecasted to reach over 400 million people by 2050. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. In addition, the whole African continent records the highest growth rate in the world.
