Player trading refers to all the operations related to the transfers of footballers among different clubs. According to a study conducted in 2020, Serie A soccer teams in Italy completed 355 player transfers in the season 2019/2020. The research estimated that the number of transfers is expected to decrease in 2020/2021, as the Serie A clubs will count on fewer resources for player trading than the previous season, due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, the number of transfers is estimated to drop to 291, most of which relating to loans and free player transfers.
