Not too long ago, fair trade might have been perceived as a niche market. However, the distribution of fairly traded products by traditional retailers may have participated to their democratization, in the same way as for organic products. In 2020, in France, over half (54 percent) of internationally produced fair trade items were sold in supermarkets and other types of traditional distribution channels.
