As of February 2021, less than half – 48 percent – of the internet users surveyed in Brazil expressed trust in news found on search engines. Little over one-third – 34 percent – of respondents trusted news on social media. Furthermore, more than one out of three internet users in Brazil used WhatsApp as a news source in 2021.

The source adds the following information: "... online samples will tend to under-represent the news consumption habits of people who are older and less affluent, meaning online use is typically over-represented and traditional offline use under-represented. In this sense, it is better to think of results as representative of the online population."
