The share of European ports that had introduced fee differentiation for green vessels was 62 percent in 2016. In 2017, the share of ports with fee differentiation for greener ships dropped to 51 percent, only to increase again in the following years. In 2022, 60 percent of European ports were offering fee differentiation for green vessels. By lowering their fees, ports aim to reward vessels that make an effort to exceed environmental regulatory standards.
