In the first quarter of 2024, the labor force participation rate peaked among South Africans aged 35 to 44, reaching 79.4 percent. Compared to the same quarter in 2023, there was a year-on-year change of 0.9 percent. Among the population between 45 and 54 years old, the participation in the labor market in South Africa was 74 percent, which was slightly lower than the 75.6 percent rate recorded for young South Africans (25 to 34 years).
