In 2022, communication was the leading online activities in Thailand, accounting for 92.21 percent. This was followed by payment services and online shopping.
The Thai online entertainment business
Thais spend a lot of time online. On average, it was approximately six hours a day on entertainment, which included online television, streaming music and gaming. Apart from watching videos primarily on Facebook and YouTube, Thai people also consume media from local entertainment providers. For example, TrueVisions, owned by True Corporation, is a major cable and satellite provider which has transitioned into utilizing streaming entertainment. Overall, TrueVisions has accumulated more customers in recent years, signaling a rise in online entertainment consumption in the country.
Rise of the digitalization
Thai society is becoming more and more technology-integrated. With the number of smartphone users expected to rise along with the introduction of 5G networks, business owners have learned to cease this opportunity with more online business models. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the future of businesses, driving them towards online systems. During the pandemic, a large portion of consumers made online purchases at least once or twice a week or even more, signifying a greater reliance on online products and services.
