According to a survey on child sexual abuse prevention in China conducted in 2019, about 42 percent of the surveyed parents said they strictly controlled the online activities of their children. Only 1.24 percent of the parents said they did not monitor their children's internet usage at all.

The survey was conducted among Chinese parents who:
34.77 percent lived in cities, 32.96 percent lived in rural areas, 32.27 lived in county towns;
10.39 percent had children aged under six years, 79.73 percent had 7-12 year old children, 8.33 percent had 13-15 year old children, 1.55 percent had 16-18 years old children;
22.21 percent fathers, 74.1 percent mothers, 2.09 percent grandparents, 1.61 percent others.
