In a survey conducted on April 2020 regarding political choices of Singaporeans for the general election in 2020, 73 percent of Peoples' Action Party (PAP) voters believed that Singaporeans could still achieve social mobility through hard work, compared to 42 percent of opposition voters. The PAP has been the dominant political party in Singapore since independence. The concept of meritocracy is also deeply entrenched in the country, and influences its social policies and education system.
Singapore had scheduled its 13th general elections on July 10, with campaigning beginning on July 1. Due to COVID-19, special livestreaming facilities will be set up during the campaign period. Candidates will be able to hold e-rallies at these facilities.
