The results of a survey from 2018 show that about 60 percent of women in Nigeria were aware of all three means of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is also known as perinatal transmission of HIV. It can be largely limited by the use of HIV medicines and other strategies adopted during pregnancy, during childbirth, and after the birth.
In Nigeria, about 28 percent of unmarried women used modern contraception methods, which include pills, condoms, implants, and others. The share of married women who used contraception was even lower.
