According to a survey on online shopping behavior in Hong Kong conducted by Rakuten Insight in May 2020, almost half of the respondents who had purchased online said they had bought more food and groceries, as well as personal hygiene products such as toilet paper and masks. Dry food items were shopped most frequently online among all food products.

What products did you purchase more frequently online/ on e-commerce sites during the COVID-19 pandemic, compared to before the pandemic?

The question was asked among 2,317 female and 1,263 male online shoppers.
The survey was conducted among
455 respondents aged 16 to 24 years,
1,289 respondents aged 25 to 34 years,
988 respondents aged 35 to 44 years,
520 respondents aged 45 to 54 years and
328 respondents aged 55 years and older.
