The coronavirus outbreak led to a massive decrease in the amount of people visiting shopping areas in the Netherlands, only to pick up again since May 2020. From the moment that the Dutch government announced social distancing measures in week 11 (early March), the busyness of shopping streets declined by up to 80 percent. As of October 2020, footfall is still far below the level of the same period in 2019.
