The fertilizer industry is the largest consumer of natural gas in India, accounting for some 32 percent of total consumption in financial year 2023. The petrochemical and sponge iron sectors – along with the fertilizer industry – made up the 37 percent of India's non-energy consumption of natural gas that year.
