As of 2019, the return on average shareholders equity (ROE) of Shoprite Holdings was at 12 percent, a decrease in comparison to the previous year, when it was at 17.9 percent. The South African Shoprite Group opened its first warehouse in 1979 and has since expanded to become one of the most successful retailers on the African continent and the Indian Ocean Islands.
