India: COVID-19 impact on retail and recreation mobility by state 2020

Due to measures introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in India, retail and recreational mobility saw the steepest decline across states. Tamil Nadu saw a decrease of 87 percent as of September 27 compared to baseline figures from January and February 2020. By contrast, Jammu and Kashmir saw an increase of 103 percent compared to baseline values. This could be attributed to the reorganization of the region from special status to a union territory in October 2019 and lockdown provisions, including a shutdown of phone and internet services.
