Quarterly banker expectations in financial indicators of the industry in U.S. 2023
Banker expectations in key indicators of the banking industry paint a gloomy picture, according to a survey carried out in each quarter of 2022 and in the first quarter of 2023. Between the first quarter of 2022 and the third quarter of 2022, the share of respondents who expected deposit competition, funding costs, and loan demand to worsen increased gradually. Banker expectations improved in the last quarter of 2022 and in early 2023, though the share of bank leaders who expect improvements in the next 12 months remained relatively low.
