North America and Europe each generate approximately 67 billion cubic meters of wastewater annually, at a rate of 231 cubic meters per capita in the U.S. The per capita discharge of wastewater in Africa is significantly lower than in North America and Europe, at around 95 cubic meters of wastewater per year.
