According to a survey on the state of smoking during the coronavirus (COVID-19)pandemic, about 77 percent of smokers aged between 25 and 39 years old stated that they attempted to switch to smokeless tobacco. The Indian government announced a ban the sale of liquor, tobacco, and chewing tobacco or gutka on April 15, 2020 as a measure to slow the spread of COVID-19 during the lockdown.
