In 2019, the annual average number of books read by children in South Korea increased to 40.7 books in 2019 from 34.3 books in 2017. In contrast, the average number of books read by adults in South Korea decreased to 7.5 books in 2019 from 9.4 books in 2017. For 2019, audio books were newly added into the survey on top of traditional paper books and electronic books. Textbooks, other academic books, magazines and comics were not counted.
