Public expenditure for hospitals in Italy 2012-2023
Public healthcare expenditure for hospitals in Italy increased overall in the last few years. The lowest value recorded throughout the period considered was in 2013, when public expenditure for hospitals amounted to barely 61 billion euros. In the following years, public funding increased steadily, reaching over 73 billion euros in 2023. This figure refers to means licensed establishments that are primarily engaged in providing medical, diagnostic, and treatment services. The latter include physician, nursing, and other health services to inpatients, as well as the specialized accommodation services required by inpatients and which may also provide day care, outpatient, and home healthcare services.
