In 2020, nearly a fifth of spoken word audio listening occurred on podcasts, up from eight percent in 2014. Whilst podcasts make up a small portion of total listening to spoken word audio content, the increase in share of listening attributed to podcasts has been chipping away at AM/FM radio listening, which in 2020 was down to 55 percent.
