According to the survey among lower class women in China, 42 percent of respondents said that they were responsible for the grocery shopping during the COVID-19 outbreak. About 18 percent of the respondents reported their family members shared the shopping responsibilities. Around 57 percent of respondents felt that they took more responsibility in taking care of their family during COVID-19.

In your household, who is responsible for going out and shopping for necessities like grain and oil?
The questionnaires were distributed via Weibo and WeChat among females majority of whom were:
earning less than 5,000 yuan per month (90.3 percent);
working in the service sector (37.6 percent) or as housewives (20.1 percent);
between 18 and 35 years old (51.7 percent) or between 36 and 50 years (39.3 percent);
married (69 percent) or single (25.4 percent).
