According to a survey by Rakuten Insight on panic buying due to the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea in 2020, the majority of respondents who engaged in panic buying stated that they felt safe afterwards. Overall, younger people were most likely to feel safer by panic buying. In contrast, nearly thirty percent of people older than 55 years old said they did not feel safe even after panic buying. Of the almost ten thousand Koreans surveyed, only 15.4 percent took part in panic buying.

The survey was conducted among 793 female and 684 male respondents.
The survey was conducted among
152 respondents aged 16 to 24 years,
559 respondents aged 25 to 34 years,
489 respondents aged 35 to 44 years,
215 respondents aged 45 to 54 years and
62 respondents aged 55 years and older.
Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.
