According to a survey by Rakuten Insight on panic buying after the coronavirus outbreak, 88 percent of Malaysian respondents aged 55 years and older stated that they had not engaged in panic buying because of the coronavirus pandemic. In the same survey, the majority of respondents who did not engage in panic buying indicated that they trusted supermarkets to have enough supplies.

The survey was conducted among 6,762 female and 4,809 male respondents.
The survey was conducted among
2,118 respondents aged 16 to 24 years,
4,879 respondents aged 25 to 34 years,
3,027 respondents aged 35 to 44 years,
1,014 respondents aged 45 to 54 years and
533 respondents aged 55 years and older.
Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.
