Among the Latin American countries analyzed in this graph, Brazil was the only nation that showed an increase in the number of ventilators in hospitals between 2017 and 2019, with a growth rate of 30 percent. However, this South American country was also the most affected by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the region as of May 19, 2020, where ventilators were needed in order to treat the most acute cases.
