Approximately 1.63 million people claimed unemployment benefits in the United Kingdom in the second quarter of 2024, one of the lowest claimant counts since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns played havoc with the UK economy, leading to the sharp rise in jobless claims seen here in the second quarter of 2020.
