The COVID-19 pandemic that spread across the world at the beginning of 2020 was not only a big threat to public health, but also to the entire youth and amateur sports industry. During a May 2020 survey in the United States, some 19 percent of respondents strongly support the idea of pre-paying future seasons to help youth sports programs survive the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
