According to a survey on consumer behavior during coronavirus outbreak conducted by Rakuten Insight in April 2020, panic buying was not common in China. A majority of those Chinese respondents who had stocked up on groceries said that they felt safe after stockpiling. The same survey found that 31.5 percent of panic buying in the country happened on e-commerce platforms.
