The Men's 10,000 meter race has been a permanent fixture at the Summer Olympics since its introduction in 1912. Athletes from Finland have been the most successful in this event, taking seven golds and 13 overall medals. Twelve of Finland's medals were won between 1912 and 1936, and their last podium finish came in 1980; since then, Ethiopian athletes have been the most successful in this event. Several athletes have won two golds in this event, and three athletes won back-to-back golds between 1996 and 2016. 1984's silver medalist, Finland's Martti Vainio, is the only athlete to have been stripped of a medal in this event; this is the earliest case of an athlete being stripped of an Olympic medal for doping in an athletic event.

This data was collected using the official Olympic.org site, as well as a spreadsheet from the Guardian that includes data from 1896-2008 (available here), 2012 and 2016 data was compared with that from Encyclopaedia Britannica, and several news outlets were used to update the table when medals were reassigned (i.e. for doping offenses).
