In the Women's 200 meter sprint at the Olympics, athletes from the United States have seen the most success, taking six gold medals since the event was first introduced in 1948. In total, both the US and Jamaica have won 12 medals each, with Jamaica emerging as the most successful nation in the past two decades. East Germany's Bärbel Wöckel, Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown, and Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah are the most successful athletes in this event, winning two back-to-back gold medals each. Marion Jones remains the only athlete to have been stripped of a medal in this event, when the five medals she won in 2000 were rescinded due to her involvement in the BALCO scandal.
