According to a survey by Rakuten Insight in April 2020, 81 percent of Thai respondents aged between 45 to 54 years stated that they bought items in bulk from a supermarket or a hypermarket during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey also explored popular stocked-up items during the pandemic and it revealed that dry foods were the most popular item.

The survey was conducted among 6,632 female and 4,365 male respondents. Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.
