According to a survey by Rakuten Insight in April 2020, 43 percent of Thai respondents stated that they did not engage in panic buying as they trusted that there would be enough supplies in the supermarket during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey also explored reasons for making bulk purchases and it revealed that 45 percent of Thai respondents did so as they feared being quarantined soon and would not be able to buy groceries.

The survey was conducted among 2,840 female and 2,429 male respondents. Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.
