Production volume of livestock and poultry Philippines 2023, by commodity
Chicken was the most produced commodity in the Philippines, amounting to about 1.95 million metric tons in 2023. This was followed by hogs, with a production volume of roughly 1.8 million metric tons.
Meat consumption
The Filipino population is one of the highest meat consuming nations in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly red meat. One of the most popular types of meat consumed in the country was pork, although poultry meat falls closely behind.
Environmental concerns
Despite the economic value of the livestock industry, concerns about methane emissions are at the crux of discussions about the industry's harm to the environment. As of 2014, the methane emissions from agriculture farming were equivalent to over 40 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in the Philippines.
