A large majority of the Indian health insurance market belonged to public health insurance providers as of financial year 2021. The market share of standalone health insurance (SAHI) providers had increased gradually from a mere three percent in financial year 2008 to about 26 percent of the market in financial year 2021. One of the reasons for this growth in the standalone insurance providers was due to the agents not requiring additional training or insurance agent certification.
