As of April 2020, in the state of Haryana, free meals were provided to more than 2.96 million people who were stranded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of these people were migrant laborers and poor people, who were badly affected due to the loss of livelihood. Of these 2.96 million people, the state government provided the food for 75.15 percent, while the rest come from non-governmental organizations. Delhi with 1.34 million was in second place. Delhi and Haryana together made approximately 51 percent of all meals. As of April 2020, in all, 8.42 million people were provided with free food across India since the start of the lockdown.
