In 2018, half of the patients who consulted one of Flander's twenty mental health centers initially went there because of depression. On the other hand, 15 percent of patients consulted under the motive of having fears and phobias and nine percent said they struggled with stress. In mental health, an initial complaint is the main reason why a person is consulting. Although the initial complaint may not lead to a future diagnosis, figures support the prevalence of depression and anxiety in Belgium.
