In 2019, transaction values processed through Portugal's MultiBanco system were about 50 percent higher for shopping (either online or offline) than for cash withdrawals. The MultiBanco ATM network can be found at Portuguese banks but also in stores or webshops. The machines allow consumers to withdraw money but also do various other things, like paying utility bills, order cinema tickets, pay taxes, or recharge mobile phone credit.
