In 2021, the number of eSports events managed and controlled by Modern Times Group (MTG) increased compared to the same period the year before. Overall, there were 15 Master, 55 Challenger, and one Open competition throughout 2021.
Master properties include large scale competitions with professional eSports players, while Challenger competitions are smaller scale competitions with semi-professional players, and Open tournaments are free for all gamers. MTG's events are organized by its eSports portfolio companies, Turtle Entertainment and DreamHack. Turtle Entertainment is the Germany-based operator of the brand ESL, running eSports events worldwide. Sweden-based Dreamhack manages gaming conventions and eSports competitions.
