As of April 2020, 83 percent of teens in the United States were using text messaging to keep in contact with friends and family during the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, 72 percent were using phone calls to stay in touch with people they were no longer able to see in-person during the coronavirus crisis. In contrast, only 37 percent were using e-mail as a means of staying connected. Increased usage of technology as a means of contact was a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which caused stay home orders and social distancing to be put in place in the country.
