Energy demand in 2020 will be highly dependent on the duration, stringency, and geographical spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdowns as well as how quickly countries recover. As of Q1 2019, it is projected that global primary energy demand for coal in 2020 will decrease by 7.7 percent relative to 2019 demand figures.
