A survey on Indonesians in March 2020 found that 42.3 percent of Indonesian respondents who had already returned to their hometown for Eid did so as they lived alone or in a flat-sharing (kost). The annual movement of people from the cities in Indonesia back to their hometowns is known there as "mudik". From April 24, 2020, until May 31, 2020, the Indonesian government has prohibited its citizen to use any transportation for traveling purposes during Ramadan month to suppress the case numbers of coronavirus in Indonesia.
