Because of the effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus, global chemical production declined by 1.8 percent as of August 2020, compared to January 2020. As of August 2020, Latin America had the largest regional chemical production decreases worldwide, with chemicals production decreases of 9.8 percent overall in that region. Although 2020 chemicals production had increased in some countries/regions such as the Former Soviet Union as of August 2020, production decreased in most world regions.
