In March 2020, the most common symptoms among those hospitalized with COVID-19 in the U.S. were cough, fever, and shortness of breath. This statistic shows selected symptoms among adults aged ≥18 years with COVID-19–associated hospitalizations from March 1 to 30, in the 14 U.S. states under surveillance by COVID-NET.

* Selected counties from the following states included in COVID-NET surveillance: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, and Utah.
Symptoms were collected through review of admission history and physical exam notes in the medical record and might be determined by subjective or objective
findings. In addition to the symptoms in the table, the following less commonly reported symptoms were also noted for adults with information on symptoms (180):
hemoptysis/bloody sputum (2.2%), rash (1.1%), conjunctivitis (0.6%), and seizure (0.6%).
