The outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic in Poland in March 2020 changed the purchasing behavior of the society.
Between the 4th and 5th week of the so-called national quarantine, the most significant increase of the footfall rate in retail stores was recorded in supermarkets - by 21 percent. Convenience chains were further on the list - increase of 17.4 percent, discounts - 16.1 percent, hypermarkets - 15 percent and cash&carry chains - 12.3 percent. Easter had a big impact on the increased traffic in retail stores.

* The monitoring lasted for five weeks of the so-called national quarantine, i.e. from March 9 to April 12. A total of 972,462 adult Poles were observed. The analysis covered 23 retail chains, including hypermarkets, discounters, supermarkets, convenience and cash&carry (16 746 outlets in total), as well as 8 nationwide brands of fuel stations (3 491 facilities in total) in all voivodships.
