Number of physicians in Russia 1990-2022

In 2022, approximately 744 thousand physicians worked in Russia. The number of doctors in the country gradually increased in recent years after a decline in 2015, when medical professionals across Russia were cut during the process of a health system reform. To increase salaries of healthcare professionals, the health ministry cut on other expenses and reduced the number of workers.
