During a survey in late March and early April of 2020 about 19 percent of respondents from Spain stated that they currently smoke more cigarettes than before the coronavirus outbreak. Among the five European countries in question the share of respondents that now smoke more was largest in Spain. About two percent behind Spain was the share of respondents from Italy. The share of respondents who smoke more in France and in the UK was less than half that of respondents in Spain.
