Impact of COVID-19 on home entertainment sales in Belgium 2020

In week 12 of 2020, Belgian shoppers bought more than twice as much of game consoles as the year before. Additionally, video game sales increased by 48 percent, and children's books sales by 32 percent. These home entertainment products were unusually popular in week 12 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Belgium. As the Belgian government initiated a total lockdown of society in week 12, consumers sought ways to spend their increased time at home, resulting in sales increases of (electronic) entertainment products. The number of COVID-19 infections in Belgium kept rising in March 2020.
