The Tankan survey, conducted from August to September 2024, showed that the Diffusion Index (DI) of business conditions evaluated by large manufacturing enterprises in Japan stood at 25 points in the case of the ceramics, stone and clay industry. The DI of business conditions in the petroleum and coal products industry stood at minus nine points.
The Tankan survey stands for the Short-Term Economic Survey of Enterprises in Japan. It is conducted once in three months with the aim of providing an accurate picture of business trends of enterprises in Japan. The target of the survey are private enterprises (excluding financial institutions) in the country with a capital of 20 million Japanese yen and more.
